Foreign Secretary condemns suffering in Gaza

Proof that writing to MPs has an effect. The report in the Telegraph says

‘ Mr Hammond said he had received thousands of emails, from a “broad swathe” of people, expressing horror at the impact of Israel’s bombardment on Gaza’s civilian population. The Government agreed that the situation in Gaza had become “simply intolerable”’

and

“But what has struck me most looking at my own constituency in-box as well as the thousands of emails that I’m receiving from the general public here is that it isn’t just the Muslim community that’s reacting to this. It’s a broad swathe of British public opinion that feels deeply disturbed by what it is seeing on its television screens coming out of Gaza.”

The article ends ‘Meanwhile, the Government was reviewing arms sales to Israel.’
